Replacement of Airedale BluCube DX units serving AHU3

Phased replacement of two end of life Airedale BluCube DX units for Daikin ERQ250AW1 Condensers on AHU3 for a private client, including new EKEXV valves and EKEQFCBA control boards.

Klimatec was asked to replace two ageing Airedale chillers with brand new Daikin units as part of works to revitalise overall systems.

New 7/8” 3/8” pipework was installed along a cable tray between the new condenser and the existing AHU coil, with a new expansion valve at the AHU location. All of the pipework was insulated using armaflex class O insulation ½” wall. All pipework connections were brazed whilst hot works permits were available throughout the project.

Pipework was pressure tested to the manufacturer’s specification.

A Daikin-manufactured control board was installed at the AHU location, connecting condensers with two core comms cables and sensors connected to the pipes. Installed tank pump to move water from drip trays and pump through ¼” braided hose to nearest drain.

  • Replaced end of life units

  • Old units decommissioned and stripped

  • Daikin units installed

  • Recycled materials and incinerated refrigerant

  • Installed new pipework

  • Prevented water pooling around condensers

  • Project cost approx. £42,000

The team carried out recovery of refrigerant from system one and proceeded to decommission the old units and remove the condenser, any and all pipework and cabling. The old equipment was removed for recycling/disposal and refrigerant incineration. Waste transfer notes were created to be issued on completion of works.

Klimatec installed a new condenser in the same location as the existing one by mounting it on a framework above a new drip tray, to negate the current slip hazard of water pooling as a result of defrosting and condensing.
